At HAPPY FEET(s), we believe that meaningful change begins with listening, learning and working together.
During our visit to South Africa with photographer Nicole, we had the opportunity to visit Ezweni School in Lillydale, a neighbouring community to Govern Psy Educational Center.
Although HAPPY FEET(s) currently sponsors the education of one learner at Ezweni, our visit was about much more than sponsorship. We wanted to learn from a school that has built a positive learning environment and is making a real difference in its community.
Meeting the dedicated teachers and seeing their work firsthand was both inspiring and encouraging. Their willingness to share ideas and experiences has become a valuable source of support as we continue developing Govern Psy Educational Center.
The best thing about Mika’s trips to Mpumalanga is how quickly the barriers fall away. He doesn’t speak Xitsonga and most of the children there speak only a few words of English, but as soon as there is a football on the field, no translation is needed anymore. Within five minutes, Mika is running across the red sand with the boys from the Hot Pirates.
Our vision is not to replace or compete with schools like Ezweni. They have served their community successfully for many years and continue to provide an excellent education.
Instead, our goal is to give children in the Somerset Trust area, who would not realistically be able to travel to Lillydale every day, access to the same opportunities for quality education closer to home. That’s the idea behind Govern Psy Educational Center.
Every child deserves that chance.
By working together, sharing ideas and supporting one another, we believe we can strengthen education across the entire region—not just in one community.
